Elison

B.  Elison
Elited or omitted sound segments are common in connected speech in English.  The omission can occur within the word or across the word boundary.  The unstressed syllable with schwa [ə] / [I] is often omitted in rapid speech.  For examples:

camera  -----  ['kӕmərə]              -----  [ 'kӕmrə]
medicine  -----  ['medIsən]            -----  [medIsn]
memory  -----  ['memərI]              -----  [memrI]
*cup of coffee  -----  [kΛp əv 'kɒfI]  -----  [kΛpəkɒfI]
interesting     ----- [ 'IntərIstIŋ ]   -----  [IntrIstIŋ]
laboratory   -----  [lə'bɒrətərI]  -----  [lə'bɒrətrI]
chocolate    ['ʧɒkələt]  -----  ['ʧɒklət]
vegetable   -----  ['veʤItəbl] -----   ['veʤtəbl]
